For Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward, Jackie Robinson Day is a reminder of the work put in and efforts to help in Chicago.
DENVER — On the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson integrating Major League Baseball, Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward sees Robinson’s legacy bringing new meaning.
Heyward, 32, joined other members of the Players Alliance in donating his six-figure game check Friday. He understands that money doesn’t solve everything but hopes action brings attention to the organization’s efforts and raises awareness on Jackie Robinson Day annually on April 15. Heyward referenced the importance of supporting Latin American players’ concerns about the international draft during collective bargaining negotiations and not rushing something through without respecting and listening to their perspectives.
