From Bahia Blanca, Argentina to Springfield, Mass., Manu Ginobili’s Hall of Fame...
Ever the student of mathematics, it didn’t take long for Ginobili to calculate the long odds of his journey from Bahia Blanca, Argentina to Springfield, Mass.Ginobili, 44, is set to join a Hall of Fame class that includes five-time NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway, two-time NCAA National Coach of the Year Bob Huggins, longtime NBA coach George Karl, who played four seasons with the Spurs, and referee Hugh Evans.
Ginobili’s father, Jorge, coached at the local club in Bahia Blanca. His older brother, Leandro, proceeded Ginobili into the professional ranks. After signing his first NBA contract, Ginobili went for a stroll around his new hometown — and immediately retreated to his air-conditioned hotel. The NBA season that followed marked stateside breakout, from international curiosity to budding star.
