Forging our future together: Designing the future of college admissions paid civicnation
For this reason, Arizona State University and Common App recently joined forces to host a first of its kind workshop with influential enrollment leaders from around the country. More than 40 individuals representing a wide range of private and public colleges and universities—covering the full-range of admission selectivity—gathered recently atto brainstorm solutions to some of the systemic issues impacting students and families as they navigate this process.
What tensions exist for enrollment leaders at their institutions in terms of institutional goals for new students and financial expectations? And how might we overcome them? So, how do we get to the future of college admissions that we all desire? To start, we need a collaborative, industry-wide commitment to more equitable and inclusive admissions policies and practices. At the gathering, teams imagined cross-cutting solutions as key to improving the admissions process, hinging on a collective action approach to change.
While there was a tremendous benefit in bringing together these enrollment leaders, the work needed to inform a new approach has only just begun. We must continue to create new pathways to postsecondary education for all learners, not just those going directly from high school, whether through providing workforce development opportunities or by making it easier to transfer to complete a degree.
