Fort Worth finalizes $335K schools superintendent contract
early Tuesday that she wants to spend her first 100 days at the helm getting to know Fort Worth. Her priorities are to get “real, authentic stakeholder feedback” by meeting with school leaders, teachers and community members and by getting into classrooms.
Scott Blanco-Davis, a FWISD teacher, spoke at Tuesday’s board meeting emphasizing to Ramsey the need to examine what’s succeeding within the district before looking outside of it for answers. Prior to her career in education, she served in the Army. She’s held positions as an associate superintendent, chief academic officer, high school principal, assistant principal, academy coordinator, classroom teacher and athletic coach.Ramsey’s appointment has already faced criticism, both online and at the Aug. 30 board meeting where trustees selected her as their lone finalist.
Several community members raised concerns saying a “woke activist” was not wanted in Fort Worth schools. They criticized Scribner for his efforts to address equity in schools. “Ramsey has a reputation as a change agent, someone who will keep student improvement and achievement center stage,” Bell said.“I know you keep them first, and I’m excited to see what that looks like in action,” he said.“One of the very first things she said as we were going through this process is that Fort Worth ISD has all the pieces and now we need to put them all in the right place,” she said.
