Temperatures in Houston are expected to hover just below 40 degrees overnight and warm up to the high 50s on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.from 2 a.m. through 8 a.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, the NWS is forecasting a coastal low south of the Matagorda Bay area late Sunday that will move northeast along the coast. The NWS does not expect severe or hazardous weather to develop, but is predicting rain and offshore thunderstorms. “Significant coastal flooding is not anticipated although we should see higher than normal wave run up and an increased risk of rip currents along the beaches,” NWS forecasters wrote in a brief about upcoming area weather.
The Weather Service said an Arctic front is slated to move into the Houston area later in the week, and could bring periods of freezing temperatures over the holiday weekend.
