Cover images for the first two issues of Creem,"America's Only Rock 'n' Roll Magazine," which launched in 1969 and ran until 1989. Previous attempts to resurrect Creem failed, but a new effort tries to marry the magazine's old guard staff and commitment to music with changing trends in the industry.The mailman in my neighborhood clearly didn’t know what to do with an issue of Creem. The magazine’s trim size — 10 by 12 inches — lends itself to very few mailboxes.
When people asked who would be on the inaugural cover earlier this year, Martin found the query “annoying.” Uhelszki adds, “I think there’s an old-school interest in this. For people who love to read something.” Efforts were made over the years to resurrect Creem, though they failed as publishing is an ever-changing industry with steep challenges where footholds are difficult to find.
