From fireworks to festivals, here’s how to end the decade with a bang SydNYE
More than 36,000 fireworks will ring in the new decade across Sydney Harbour, with one million revellers expected to line the foreshore to celebrate the start of 2020.
New firework effects to look out for this year will be green and red glittering willow shells, and gold and purple palm. There will be a countdown and letters that spell out "Sydney". Buses to and from Circular Quay will relocate to Martin Place from 2pm to 6pm. From 6pm until 4am all bus services to and from the city will operate from Hyde Park, Wynyard and Town Hall.
After the midnight fireworks, there will be no ferries down the Parramatta River, or to the Eastern Suburbs. Limited services will run to the Lower North Shore and Northern Beaches.Services between Dulwich Hill and Central will run regularly until 10pm on NYE. From 10.30pm until 2am, services won’t run between Exhibition Centre and Central. Services leaving the city after 10.30pm will run from Exhibition Centre only, and services to the city after 10.30pm will terminate at Convention.
From 10pm, there will be changes to entry points at Central station. For return trips to Randwick, access the Central Chalmers Street light rail stop on foot at Eddy Avenue and Elizabeth Street.Customers can enter venues until closing time on January 1, as lockout laws will not apply in the Sydney CBD and Kings Cross precincts. Hotels, clubs, bars and restaurants will be able to trade until 2am unless already approved for an extension.
