Baked goods company Gardenia has launched an investigation after a five-year-old girl bit into a plastic strip while eating a chocolate roll.
"I bought a pack of Gardenia Twiggies Choc-A-Lot Chocolate from FairPrice at Sun Plaza on Jan 2," he said.
"The next morning, my five-year-old daughter opened one and started eating, but she felt something strange in her mouth.""She pulled it out of her mouth and told me she had bitten into it -- luckily, she didn’t swallow it.""Following an investigation, our QA team conducted a test and concluded that the plastic strip most likely originated from the packaging and was introduced during the opening process while consuming the product," said a Gardenia spokesperson.
"In addition, the plastic would have been burnt if it underwent baking thus it is highly unlikely to be embedded." To prevent similar incidents, Gardenia said it will review the type of packaging used in procurement.
