A varsity athlete in North Texas is heading to “Curry Camp,” otherwise known as Stephen Curry’s Underrated Championship.
GARLAND, Texas — Curry was a three-star prospect, and hosts the camp now to help current three-star high school basketball prospects get colleges and recruiters to believe in them. Gates is the first student from Garland ISD to be selected for Curry’s prestigious championship, which is taking place on April 1.Carly Gates is a senior at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, near Dallas
She is a student body leader, serving on the district’s Change Agent Committee that meets quarterly with the superintendent to discuss current affairs and policies, and a three-sport varsity athlete in basketball, soccer and trackCarly Gates is a high school senior in North Texas who has good grades, plays three sports and is a leader at Garland ISD. She is about to go to Steph Curry’s basketball camp.
“I was looking more into being a lawyer, or I could even be a police officer. I’m still trying to decide,” Gates said. “We got selected from — it was the top 75. It was the best in the South Region in the top 75. Then they picked the top seven. Then those that were selected for the top seven, they represent this region,” Gates explained. “And I was selected.”
