The UUGAAthletics football team rejected POTUS's invitation to the White House after winning their second straight national championship in January. Georgia was invited to attend 'College Athlete Day' on June 12 and declined the offer.
Georgia was invited by the president to attend"College Athlete Day" on June 12 and declined the offer, according to a report."The University of Georgia first received on May 3 an invitation for the Bulldog football team to visit the White House on June 12,” a statement from Georgia's athletic association read.
"Unfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year." The Bulldogs successfully defended their CFB crown on Jan. 9 when they bullied Texas Christian University in a dominant 65-7 victory, and it has been reported that Georgia supporters were off when an invite to the White House was not extended soon after.
"It is our hope that this repeat championship team can join the many teams prior that have been honored by the President," a bipartisan group of Georgia's congressional delegates wrote to the White House shortly after the team's win.The White House"looks forward to welcoming" the team, a White House official said in February, but an official invitation was not seen by the Bulldogs until last week.
Georgia's rejection comes in the wake of first lady Jill Biden's quick invitation of women's basketball national champions Louisiana State University and the suggestion that the tournament's runner-up, the University of Iowa, should attend too, the report noted.
