We spoke to BirdBoxBarcelona stars Diego Calva and Georgina Campbell about their roles in the Netflix thriller, taking BirdBox to Spain, and going from Barbarian & Babylon to Barcelona:
Revisit the world of Bird Box with Bird Box Barcelona, the follow-up to Netflix’s 2018 hit. As its title suggests, Bird Box Barcelona is set in Barcelona, Spain, and nearly all the film’s dialogue is in Spanish; it’s a less obvious move than doing a direct continuation of the story of the first Bird Box, but it pays off. While not necessarily a direct Bird Box sequel, Bird Box Barcelona takes the world of the first film and explores and expands it in truly exciting new ways.
Diego Calva and Georgina Campbell spoke with Screen Rant about what brought them to the project, who their characters are, and more. Diego, we spoke about Babylon, which I remember being one of your first big projects outside of Mexico. I know this was shot in Spain. Have you been trying very hard to work on more of these big worldwide projects, travel to other countries, and do projects over there?
Georgina Campbell: I don't speak any Spanish. I was very surprised when I got offered the job, but they were like, “You’re an English character,” and I don't speak Spanish [in the film]. I have a few tiny lines where I speak a little bit of Spanish, but mostly I'm speaking English in the movie. Being on the set… I mean, it was challenging. It was hard. It was different than what I'm used to doing, but everyone was so lovely.
