Police in Gilroy arrested suspected drivers in two separate hit-and-run crashes that killed pedestrians earlier this week.

Emergency crews responded and began first aid but the pedestrian, a Gilroy man, died at the scene. His name was not released. Derek Shingu is accused in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian near Wren Avenue and El Cerrito Way in Gilroy on September 12, 2022.Shingu was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, and vehicular manslaughter.
