Kayla Unbehaun of South Elgin, Illinois, disappeared July 5, 2017. South Elgin police said her father went to pick her up at her mother’s residence that day, but neither she nor her mother were there,The father had permanent custody of the 9-year-old. She had been visiting with her mother for a few days over the July 4 holiday.according to WLOS-TV
. The man had seen a story about Kayla in an episode of the Netflix series “Unsolved Mysteries,” Fox said. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had also been raising awareness about Kayla via a Facebook page namedPolice in Asheville said they arrested Kayla’s mother, Heather Unbehaun, 40, on Saturday. She faces a child abduction charge and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Elgin police had issued a warrant for her arrest after Kayla disappeared.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children shared a message from Kayla’s father, Ryan Iskerka, saying, “I’m overjoyed that Kayla is home safe. I want to thank @ElginPDFD, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and all of the law enforcement agencies who assisted with her case. We ask for privacy as we get to know each other again and navigate this new beginning.”
