A faithful God of War series adaptation is promised by Amazon.

Amazon Studios promises their God of War series will be a faithful adaptation. God of War is based on Sony's series of video games created by David Jaffe. The franchise began in 2005, with players controlling Kratos, a Spartan soldier betrayed by Ares, spurring a revenge mission that would see him ascend to the throne as the new God of War in Greek mythology.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After Amazon Studios announced a new series based on the God of War franchise, their Head of Television, Vernon Sanders, opened up about what to expect while speaking with Collider. The show, which is said to focus heavily on the Norse mythology stories from the later games, with Kratos and Atreus' relationship integral to the story, will be grounded by emotional stakes within their larger-than-life tale.

"At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] and Mark [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] have come up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is both incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own. If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it's going to be huge.

By focusing on God of War's later use of Norse mythology, it allows the series to embark on a grandiose journey from humble beginnings. The story is likely to see Kratos' wife Faye die, with him and his son Atreus setting out on a quest to fulfill her final wish of having her ashes spread at the highest peak in the nine realms, Jötunheim.

With God of War in the early stages of development, there are still many details under wraps, like casting. While no cast for the series has been announced, there are several actors who could tackle the immense presence of Kratos, like Dave Bautista, Gerard Butler, or even Christopher Judge, who voices the character and features a similarly imposing stature. Still, while details are vague, God of War is promising to be a series for audiences to keep an eye on as it develops.
