This opportunity, he elaborated, would place Ms Lam in a position where she would be able to meet some of the protesters’ demands without worrying about being accused of yielding to violence.
“They know the government well – that it cannot and will not do anything as long as the violence continues,” he observed. Earlier this month, the legislator who is also one of Hong Kong’s deputies to the National People’s Congress, urged Beijing to consider giving in to some of the protesters’ demands, including the convening of a judge-led independent inquiry.
