'Republicans never miss a chance to protect their billionaire donors,' Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said in response to a Congressional Budget Office analysis.

The Congressional Budget Office on Wednesday said the Internal Revenue Service funding cuts that Republicans proposed as part of a supplemental aid package for the Israeli military would reduce federal revenues by $26.8 billion and add $12.5 billion to the deficit over the next decade. The CBO's estimates undercut the notion that IRS cuts would 'offset' the costs of sending Israel more weaponry and other military assistance.

' The CBO's estimate of the Republican bill's deficit impact is far lower than the number put forth by IRS chief Daniel Werfel, who told The Washington Post on Wednesday that the GOP legislation would cost taxpayers $90 billion. The House GOP's package, which the chamber's rules panel is set to mark up on Wednesday, includes roughly $14 billion in largely military aid for Israel, in line with President Joe Biden's request earlier this month.
