The 64th Annual Grammy Awards took place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday night.
Though R&B singer-songwriter John Legend isn’t up for any trophies, he still debuted his new song “Free” atUkraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a powerful pre-recorded video message ahead of the performance which dropped some hard truths about Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia, stating that “our loved ones don’t know if we will be together again.
” He said that the Ukrainian musicians are now wearing body armor instead of tuxedos “but the music will break through anyway.” He also told the Grammy audience to “fill the silence with your music.”Legend was honored at the Recording Academy Honors presented by The Black Music Collective event ahead of the awards show he received the first-ever Recording Academy Global Impact Award for his personal and professional achievements in the music industry.
