In our college town there have been enough conferences on renewable energy, soil carbon sequestration, regenerative agriculture, and green economy ideas to wallpaper the entire town with event flyers. Even our junior high school held an assembly this past spring where one of our great teachers had students present their vision for a "regenerative city" of the future, one based on carbon-neutral and socially inclusive policies.
The adults simply lacked the nerve, resolve, or leadership to take the necessary initiative in this time of crisis.
