Thunberg has autism, so boisterous press conferences and small talk with strangers can feel overwhelming and draining, she said. She may not know how a child her age is supposed to behave, but Thunberg has caught the attention of many adults. During the United Nations’ COP24 conference in Katowice, Poland, in December,“You only speak of green eternal economic growth because you are too scared of being unpopular. You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake,” Thunberg told those assembled in a quiet, steely voice.
