A county commissioner said the guard was on the job since November and was working under a probationary period when the incident took place.
A Northumberland County Jail correctional officer has been fired after a probe showed the female guard used a racial slur in an online post, according to Northumberland County Commissioner Kym Best.
“This type of behavior will not be tolerated by any employee,” Best said. “It is also in a correctional officer code of ethics that whether its social media post or anything in or outside of the office this type of behavior is not tolerated. We followed all procedures through this process.” Warden Bruce Kovach said he began the investigation after county officials received information about the online post containing a racial epithet. The guard was put on immediate suspension without pay, Best said.
