Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has a chance to lead MLB in saves and blown saves this season. That is not a good combination.
Closing, to me, is a one-man job. Clase has proven he can handle it, but I think there are days when he needs a little help.
A couple of years ago the Guardians weren’t sure if Clase or James Karinchak would be their closer. Clase settled that issue, but as inconsistent as Karinchak has been over the last couple of years, he still has a good arm. Of Clase’s 11 blown saves, eight have come when he’s entered a game with a one-run lead. The other three have come with a two-run lead.
