Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker openly predicted that he would lose in a debate with his Democratic opponent, saying Sen. Raphael Warnock will"show up and embarrass" him, as he is"not that smart."

Walker said Warnock will best him at the Oct. 14 debate, offering a sobering assessment of the two candidates' abilities after a reporter questioned the Republican for his claims that Warnock only agreed to a debate after Walker"begged him" and"chased him down.""I'm preparing, I'm this country boy. You know, I'm not that smart, and he's that preacher.

His most recent prediction is a marked turnaround from his August prediction that he would beat Warnock and his accusations that the Georgia Democrat is"chicken" and running away from debates. When accused of dodging debates with Warnock previously, Walker said that he declined to debate because the prior conditions weren't fair.

Walker didn't participate in the Republican primary debates, but he won the nomination easily. He has previously admitted that he was"brushing up on the issues."The race is expected to be close. A Sept. 15 FiveThirtyEight poll found that Warnock was ahead at 47.8%, with Walker trailing at 45.1%.
