In Palmer, the gusts were causing large amounts of snow to drift into the roads, making driving difficult, Szatanek said. Szatanek said the winds could continue to pick up throughout late afternoon and into the evening, and said the weather service was continuing to monitor gusts and wind speeds. An additional 500 homes were without power in Chugiak, the electrical association said in a Facebook post.
