The man who hitched a ride fled with a small amount of cash, police said.
San Antonio police surround an apartment in the 4400 block of West Commerce Street as they search for a man who they say shot a woman twice in the shoulder Tuesday night, April 18, 2023.A woman was shot twice in the back after she and a driver gave a man a ride to a West Side apartment, San Antonio police said.
The man, who was not immediately identified, hitched a ride about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday to a complex near 26th and San Fernando streets, police said. Once there, the man pulled out a gun and demanded money, investigators said. The driver argued with him until he fired two shots in the back of the passenger's shoulder.
He ran away with a small amount of cash, police said, the driver sped to the McDonald's on West Commerce to call for help. Emergency medical personnel took the woman to University Hospital in critical condition. Police had been set up at the apartment complex where the shooting occurred but have since left the scene.
