HONG KONG - Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee said on Tuesday that eight overseas-based Hong Kong activistswould be “pursued for life”.

The accused are activists Nathan Law, Anna Kwok and Finn Lau, former lawmakers Dennis Kwok and Ted Hui, lawyer and legal scholar Kevin Yam, unionist Mung Siu-tat, and online commentator Yuan Gong-yi.The activists are based in several countries, including the United States, Britain and Australia.The US condemned the move through a State Department spokesman, who said it set “a dangerous precedent that threatens the human rights and fundamental freedoms of people all over the world”.

“British politicians have openly offered protection for fugitives,” a spokesman for Beijing’s embassy in London said in a statement late on Monday.
