, House Republicans are in uncharted territory Wednesday as they search for a replacement for their colleague from California. Rep. Jim Jordan , chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, became the first to publicly share his plans to run, emphatically telling reporters “yes” when asked if he’d seek to lead the chamber. Rep. Steve Scalise , the House majority leader, has also starting jockeying for the speakership.

Thomas Massie , an ally of McCarthy’s with ties to the Freedom Caucus, have also expressed support for Jordan.Several Republicans interested in running for speaker were expected to make a pitch to members of the sizable Texas House Republican delegation on Wednesday morning.
“I’m holding my powder dry until we hear from them,” he said. “Obviously I voted for Jim once before for the speaker so he’s certainly a popular member of the conference.”Rep. August Pfluger also isn’t committed to backing anyone yet, telling reporters that he expected to “hear from some good candidates” and that the conversation around who should replace McCarthy will take several days.“A lot of people have been calling me about speaker,” Trump told reporters before entering a courtroom.
