He drove in the Longhorns’ first run against Pearland, the state's No. 1 ranked Class 6A team in the state, before scoring the winning run from third base on an infield single for a 2-1 victory after he led off the seventh inning with a double. He finished the week 8-for-13 with a home run, two doubles, 5 RBIs and an .706 OBP.

The LSU commit gave up one run with nine strikeouts.Sandoval pitched the first no-hitter in school history with nine strikeouts as the Tigers defeated Mayde Creek 3-0 in the season opener. The senior allowed just one walk.Rod picked up the win as the Ricebirds beat Columbia 8-2 to remain unbeaten. Rod pitched 5⅓ innings, allowing two hits and a run with 12 strikeouts. The Sam Houston signee also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.
