Shoes or no shoes, nothing stopped Patti LaBelle from kicking up her heels at Essence Fest.
welcomed the New Orleans Superdome audience to an onstage boudoir equipped with a golden-embossed throne and a mélange of glittering high heels. LaBelle got the crowd of about 80,000 grooving to hits like “If Only You Knew” and “Love, Need, and Want You,” and in typical LaBelle fashion, the soul songstress kicked off her heels midway through the performance.
But when she went to slide into another fabulous pair of shoes, a slight error resulted in one silver shoe becoming a hand-held prop. LaBelle belted out “Somebody Loves You Baby,” grasping her bedazzled mic with one hand and clutching a single sparkling Christian Louboutin slingback with the other. “They got the wrong shoes on the piano. You know how important my shoes are to me,” LaBelle explained before saying it was “too late” to try and fix the shoe mishap as she continued on with the show.“I always have some of my shoes on the piano as part of the set to make it pretty. The sparkly silver shoe was a Christian Louboutin, and I couldn’t get it on right away, so I had to get another pair,” she explained.
