Thermometers are about as hard to get hold of these days as toilet roll.

. Antibacterial hand gel, toilet roll and thermometers seem to be almost as rare these days as a Shining Charizard Pokémon card was during the '90s. And it's quite frustrating, considering they're all very useful items during a global health crisis.

One of the key symptoms of coronavirus is a fever, but if you can't get your hands on a thermometer, how are you supposed to definitively determine whether you or someone in your household is suffering from a high temperature? We asked Clinical Nurse Consultant and Clinical Lead atWhile you might automatically reach for the forehead to monitor someone's temperature, the nurse advises to think beyond that.

However, the nurse warns not to be lulled into thinking that this is always the case."For some people, when they get a fever they experience what we call 'chills'." The nurse describes this as"an intense feeling of cold that bundles of layers aren’t helping with". "If you or a loved one is complaining of feeling very cold when no one else is, there is a good chance they have a fever," advises the expert.As per government advice, if you do notice the common symptoms of coronavirus - a fever and a persistent, dry cough - you should self-isolate as a precaution along with your whole household, in order to prevent any possible spread if it is COVID-19.
