The Utah Avalanche Center reported Sunday that humans triggered 13 avalanches on what had been a “sensitive” Saturday, a forecaster said.
Trent Meisenheimer, a forecaster with the Utah Avalanche Center, said that “this time of year, we get lots of warmups that the surfaces will get melted and then it refreezes and gets slick. And in the springtime, that coupled with some new snow and strong winds, sometimes that’s all you need.”
When asked if there were any fatalities or injuries in all those avalanches, Meisenheimer said “luckily, no,” but eight people were caught and carried in the slides. According to the Utah Avalanche Center, on Saturday, there were nine human-caused avalanches in the Salt Lake City area, three in the Logan area, and one in the Provo area.
The center said Sunday that avalanche danger is moderate in the Salt Lake City area, Logan, Ogden, the Uintas and Provo. It also warns people to stay away from roof edges where roof avalanches could be possible. Last week, a 50-year-old man was killed by a
