Disadvantaged kids whooped it up at Christmas carnival in Northridge, met Santa – and asked about coming next year.
Every year, Brian Hammel, president of the Northridge Hospital Foundation, gets to throw a fantasy Christmas party for children who attend elementary schools in nearby communities where families are struggling economically and the schools are part of the No Child Left Behind program.
The children started with hot chocolate and coloring books, then all sorts of games, then lunch. And then Santa — the real Santa — arrived on a fire truck with sirens glaring, and each child got a photo with Santa and big bag full of gifts.
