Writer Adam Maidment was lucky enough to spend a day working behind-the-scenes at Five Guys, learning all the tricks of the trade
US fast-food chain Five Guys has taken the nation by storm since it opened its first branch in the UK back in 2013. Since then, it's continued to open more than 150 spots in the country. Offering customers fresh made-to-order burgers right in front of them has certainly got its appeal, and with a simple menu, there's not much room to wrong.
After the potatoes are cut, they are taken in a ‘wash cycle’ to remove the excess starch, before getting another bathe in water. They’re then tubbed up for use throughout the day. 'It’s here that I’m also told that Five Guys do not have freezers on site. Whilst some places might just chuck a bag of frozen fries into the fryer or grab a box of buns to defrost, it’s not the case here, which is quite refreshing to hear.
