Seaside Height's vintage carousel has been in Ohio for years undergoing renovations.
Now, nearly four years later, officials in the Ocean County borough are expecting to have the refurbished carousel delivered and reassembled in time for part of Seaside Height’s summer season.
In the midst of financial troubles after Hurricane Sandy, Casino Pier gave Seaside Heights the attraction — which was appraised at over $2 million. In return, Casino Pier received 1.36 acres of borough-owned beach. The trade, proposed by the borough, prompted a lawsuit from a business owner and environmental groups who questioned the fairness of the deal.
Though the restoration is nearly complete, borough officials said a few more hurdles remain before the carousel is fully open to the public.
