Adults who help minors travel out of state for the procedure could now face prison time.
on Wednesday that prohibits an adult from helping a minor travel to receive an abortion or access abortion medication without their parents’ consent. A person convicted of “abortion trafficking” under House Bill 242 could face a sentence of two to five years in prison. The law takes effect after 30 days.
Idaho already has some of the nation’s strictest abortion laws: a near-total ban on the procedure except for instances of rape, incest, and medical emergencies.
