PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is more than capable of flattening the recent spike in Covid-19 cases but health authorities must act quickly while the situation is still under control, say experts.
They warned that the situation could escalate if measures were not put into place as soon as possible.
“The current scenario does look scary but if we act swiftly within these two weeks, we can still contain it without a full-fledged movement control order . The Sri Petaling tabligh cluster saw 42,023 people screened for the virus, out of whom 3,375 were tested positive. The country’s biggest cluster to date, cases were detected in seven states involving 2,550 Malaysians and 825 foreigners from 28 countries.
“Secondary hospitals, using indoor stadiums and halls manned by the Armed Forces Medical Corp, may need to be considered if spare capacity diminishes rapidly. “Moreover, most of those found positive are from clusters involving institutionalised communities and confined areas while temporary enhanced MCOs have also been implemented in affected areas.
“However, the current situation is different as there is a significantly big proportion of cases in all the states due to people returning from Sabah, ” he said.
