Dressing in a “demure” fashion has, for some people, always been considered aspirational. Chief among them? Lily-Rose Depp in her one-inch heels and school-girl headbands.
The good thing about the sudden proliferation of the “very demure, very mindful” catchphrase is that Jools Lebron – its TikTok originator – can now afford to finance the rest of her gender transition as a result of having gone viral. The bad thing is that I am receiving frequent emails from brands with subject lines like “Goodbye Brat Summer, Hello Demure Autumn!” in an attempt to market sun hats, puff-sleeved dresses and, in one strange instance, something called an “antimicrobial scrubber”.
For Lebron, this means influencers Selyna Brillare and Devin Halbal and ballroom icon Venus Xtravaganza, but also Lily-Rose Depp, who is rarely photographed without a pair of grandma-ish heels that extend no more than one inch above the ground. See also: the Alexandre de Paris headband, the Frankies Bikinis cardigan, the We Wore What slip dress and the Chanel bag that accompanied the actor to a Los Angeles outpost of Party City yesterday afternoon.
