Such safeguards put the reserve on a par with the highest protected status granted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature's criteria, higher than that of national park. As well as benefiting local biodiversity, rewilding can play a key role in the fight against climate change. Although he's not against the idea in theory, he argues it would take"thousands of hectares" to achieve meaningful results.
