“That’s the challenge for this department: see if there’s something out there that’s going to make a difference for us either finding a player or a system or something that works in a game. That’s kind of where we’re at.” Rodell, meanwhile, knows all about wearing different hats. He spent the previous three seasons as the assistant video coach behind Kelly Forbes, and one season before that as the video coach for AHL affiliate Texas. He’s also spent time in ticket sales for the Stars.“He was a big part of our team in the Soo, actually having better information to help with our decision making and is the epitome of someone who has legitimately grinded his way to a great position,” Dubas said.
On the analytics side of things, puck and player tracking figure to completely change the way numbers are distilled. Exact locations of shots are recorded.
