Thousands of residents were under evacuation orders after a large fire at an Indiana plastics facility pumped clouds of black, toxic smoke into the air, officials said.
The fire engulfed at least six buildings near downtown Richmond, Ind., that were being used to store a large amount of plastic, according to local fire chief Tim Brown. Toxic smoke was covering a wide area, Indiana State Fire Marshal Steve Jones said. He expected the fire to continue for several days.
