Evans’ response to Lattimore’s initial non-violent involvement was unnecessary and deemed to be a dangerous offense. It’s worth noting this wasn’t Evans’ first physical run-in with Lattimore. In 2017, Evans was suspended one game for blindsiding Lattimore on a play near the Buccaneers sideline. The jointly approved officer took that incident into account while weighing a ruling. Evans’ violent outburst in 2017 was fairly similar to the one he targeted Lattimore with on Sunday.
The suspension won’t have a major financial impact on Evans. Evans restructured his contract during the offseason, which lowered his 2022 base salary to a league-minimum $1.12 million.
