The source, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks, adding that meetings were"between Israeli and Qatari working-level teams".According to his spokesman, Katz had told members of the Israeli parliament's foreign affairs committee:"We have not been this close to an agreement on the hostages since the previous deal".
In September, Qatar had announced it was suspending its efforts, blaming both sides for a lack of willingness to reach an agreement.On Thursday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, during a visit to Israel, stated that he"had the sense" that Netanyahu was ready for a deal to secure the release of hostages.
"We are pushing as hard as we know how to do at this point, and we believe we can get to a deal. But again it remains incumbent from Hamas and Israel ... getting it over the line," he told journalists.
