As the strike at a West Side hospital stretches into its eleventh day, workers, faith leaders and community leaders held a vigil Wednesday morning.

Striking Loretto Hospital workers are calling for what they say is a fair contract for the sake of patients, frontline workers and the community. The unionized employees say the hospital's staffing crisis is caused by low wages. They say short-staffing is putting patient safety at risk, and also leading to high employee turnover."Having a 60 percent staff turnover is a crisis. And it's a crisis created by Loretto paying below industry wages. Workers have already made an impact. Loretto management has agreed to increase minimums and more fair wage structure," one Loretto worker said.
