It’s not too late for my party to choose a better candidate for Warringah | Felicity Wilson
In my five years as an elected representative of a vast proportion of the people who are also voters in the electorate of Warringah,raised with me by my community.
I hear from young mothers, like me, struggling to juggle the competing demands of family and careers that don’t always value their contribution either flexibly or financially. I meet with older women who have spent their lives caring for others only to find themselves in the fastest growing group experiencing homelessness and the second most likely to be in poverty.
People of all ages who are living through the challenges of gender dysphoria – and their friends, parents and teachers raise their concerns with me about the lack of humanity and dignity in the political debate about their bodies. It is the job of elected and aspirant political representatives to work for them, not against them. Those unable to deal respectfully with this sensitive and challenging area of public policy need not apply.
