Italy will host the 2026 Winter Olympics for the 2nd time in 20 years despite a shaky economy and a debt crisis
“We have budget problems in Italy, but I think that this is something that everyone has,” Italian undersecretary of state Giancarlo Giorgetti said, according to the. “They are two of the richest provinces in Europe. They certainly have the capacity, they have the readiness, they have the finances in order to be able to support the event.”
The IOC will contribute at least $925 million toward the games, which are expected to cost up to $1.7 billion. The city of Turin hosted the Winter Olympics in 2006.The official International Olympic Committee twitter, which used both Milan-Cortina and Milano-Cortina, appears to be undecided on what the Olympics will be called.
An IOC spokesperson did not say what the official name will be, but noted that Milan-Cortina is the name in English and Milano-Cortina is the name in Italian. The U.S. media appears to be using its English name.on whether to call the city its Italian name or the name most English-speakers were familiar with, Turin.
