Former Bond girl Denise Richards, who starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in The World Is Not Enough, argues that James Bond should never be a woman.

The World Is Not Enough Bond girl Denise Richards argues that James Bond shouldn't be female. Richards played Dr. Christmas Jones in Pierce Brosnan's penultimate outing as 007 in 1999 before Daniel Craig then took up the mantle in 2006's Casino Royale. Following Craig's farewell to the role with 2021's No Time To Die, however, it's been unclear who will be next to don the tuxedo and wield the character's iconic Walther PPK.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In a recent interview with Variety, Richards weighs in on how James Bond 26 should handle the character, making her feelings clear that the British superspy should remain a man. The actor cites Ian Fleming's iconic novels upon which the movie franchise is based as the main reason for maintaining the current status quo.

“Definitely a male Bond, I’m sorry. And I might get a lot of flack for this. But the fact of the matter is the Bond franchise was based off of a book franchise and Bond was male in the books and I believe [they should] continue with that. I do, and people may s--t on me for it, but I believe it. They could do a spin-off where a Bond girl becomes the female Bond. But I think James Bond is James Bond.

Could A Female James Bond Work? With long-time franchise producer Barbara Broccoli affirming that James Bond 26 will totally reinvent the character following No Time To Die, it's been mostly mysterious exactly where the movie series will go next. After more than six decades of Bond being white, there have been calls to finally cast an actor of color in the role. While Broccoli and producer Michael G.

Instead of introducing a female Bond, perhaps the franchise would be better off giving Lynch her own spinoff movie as 007. Or, as No Time To Die star Ana de Armas suggests, future iterations of Bond should remain male, but the movies themselves should feature more complex and interesting female supporting characters beyond the more prototypical "Bond girl".
