Japan’s PM Kishida to unveil new child care plan amid election rumours
TOKYO – Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is set to unveil on Tuesday a package of measures aimed at reversing the dwindling birth rate by increasing payouts to families with children.
The package, which Mr Kishida is likely to explain at a press conference, may help his party appeal to the public with promises of payouts.now about 4.7 trillion yen , by the early 2030s. Analysts, however, doubt whether the package will do much to stem a chronic decline in the birth rate and Japan’s rapidly ageing population.
