TOKYO - Visitors to Japan exceeded 2 million in June for the first time in more than three years, official data showed on Wednesday, drawn in by the weak yen and helping foster a recovery in the pandemic-stricken retail sector.

That was up from 1.9 million arrivals in May, but still down 28 per cent from the level in June 2019 before the coronavirus outbreak.travellers are pouring in, taking advantage of a slide in the currency that has made holidays the cheapest in decades. While no one is expecting that this year, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is hoping a recovery in the industry will add 5 trillion yen a year to the economy.

Tokyo’s Haneda Airport restarted international flights from its Terminal 2 for the first time in three years on Thursday.
