The new net worth positions him behind Oprah Winfrey and well ahead of other billionaires such as former NBA star Michael Jordan and Apple CEO Tim Cook , according to theJay-Z’s latest increase in net worth is largely due to his February deal with Bacardi over the D’ussé cognac brand. He and the beverage company previously owned D’usse in a 50-50 split.
“Even in a year without a tour or album release, Jay-Z mints millions from his Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Usse cognac,” thereport said. “The Brooklyn-born rapper was crowned hip-hop’s first billionaire by Forbes in 2019, thanks to a sprawling and diversified empire.” The report also gives a nod to assets from his Roc Nation entertainment, and sports empire, and to a fine-art collection that includes works by Jean-Michel Basquiat. His Marcy Venture Partners, named after the housing project where he grew up, raised an $85 million fund in 2019.
