The government quickly and unequivocally labeled the El Paso mass shooting as terrorism—the latest example of the Justice Department’s embrace of the term
WASHINGTON—Just one day after the mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart, the top federal prosecutor in southern Texas declared that the incident would be treated as a terrorist attack.
“We’re going to do what we do to terrorists in this country, which is deliver swift and certain justice,” said U.S. Attorney John Bash in a press conference on Sunday addressing the massacre, in which 22 people were killed and which appeared to be motivated by the suspect’s anti-immigrant animus.
