Hong Kong bakery Kee Wah has closed its ION Orchard outlet in Singapore after three years, expressing gratitude to customers. The brand intends to return with seasonal pop-up stores at Takashimaya during festive periods like Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year.
Despite the closure, the bakery will return for seasonal pop-ups in Takashimaya . Hong Kong-based bakery Kee Wah closed its store in ION Orchard on Friday .
In a Facebook post on the same day, it said: "After the joy of serving this wonderful city, we're closing the doors of our shop, though not forever, we hope.
" "Kee Wah began with a simple idea, to make something good and share it. Singapore took us in, made us feel at home and gave us countless moments of connection," it added. The bakery, known for its mooncakes, wife cakes, eggrolls and pastries, first came to Singapore in 2021.
It started as a tiny grocery store in 1938, a family business founded by Wong Yip Wing which expanded into an international brand with stores in Hong Kong, China, Macau and the US.
"Every smile across the counter, every "this tastes like my grandmother's", every returning customer... Your delight is the whole reason we do what we do, it said.
"You were the heart of this shop, and we quite literally couldn't have done any of it without you. " Kee Wah assured customers that "this isn't quite goodbye", as the brand will return for seasonal pop-ups in Takashimaya during Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year. "Singapore, it has been an honour. Thank you for everything-and here's hoping we'll meet again soon," the bakery said.
